Welcome to the Prayer Ministry Component of Lindenwood's Website! There is no more important element or aspect of any Christians's life than prayer. Prayer is, very simply put, "staying connected with God."

PRAYER

"To pray is to touch hands with the Infinite; to reach far out into the eternities to be the subject of transcendent experience; to feel the force of miraculous life, and the cleansing, refreshing, strengthening, comforting touch of the living God upon the heart." B.A. Abbot, 1927

Prayer

Jesus, the very son of God, knew that it was essential for him to remain "in God" and allow God's power to remain in him if in fact he was to fulfill God's purpose and will for his life. Therefore Jesus spent his life in prayer.

At Lindenwood, we recognize that the same is true for every sincere follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. We invite you to become a prayer partner with us. Jesus is our model, our Divine mentor. The gospel of Mark reveals to us the importance of prayer in Jesus' life. Jesus began each day in prayer: "He was up long before day break and went out alone to pray." (Mark 1:35) In the sixth chapter of Mark, Jesus tell his disciples to send the multitudes home (after he had taught them many things and miraculously fed five thousand of them). Then at the close of a long day, Jesus went up into the hills to pray (verse 46.) When the demons of special occasion confronted Jesus he immediately turned his thoughts to God - his source of strength.

In Mark 7:34 Jesus looks up to heaven and calls on God's power to heal a man with hearing loss. How can any sincere follower of Christ Jesus not realize the same thing that Jesus realized - contact with God is absolutely essential. Praying on a regular basis in a sincere disciplined way is absolutely essential if we are to be transformed into the persons God intended us to be - if we are in fact to experience the abundant life He promised.

At Lindenwood we have several groups who pray intercessory for the needs of members and non-members alike. Men and women and youth come together on a regular basis to lift up praises and thanksgivings of those who are rejoicing as well as the needs of those who are hurting and in pain or want.

Here at Lindenwood we believe in intercessory prayer because we have seen the results of it over and over. One of our clergy staff expressed it well in an article in our newspaper in 1998: "All human beings are interconnected ... of our own lives that need changing."
